The honest timeline

• By June–July: companies with a specific December date in mind are already holding it. This sounds absurd until the date you wanted is gone.
• By early fall: the prime Thursday–Saturday slots in the first half of December are largely spoken for at established venues. What remains is real but requires flexibility.
• November: you're choosing from mid-week nights, later-December dates, or venues you haven't heard of for a reason.
• After that: January — genuinely the smart move, not the fallback.

What holding a date actually takes

Less than people think: a walkthrough, a guest-count range, and a deposit. The mistake is waiting for the guest list to be final — lists finalize in November, dates disappear in September. Hold the night, then count heads.
